Glucose Tolerance Test

If you follow me on twitter, you might have read how my 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test went this morning. It was horrible. I have small veins so I made sure to hydrate three days before the test to make it easier on everyone and it didn't work. At least my husband is amazing and went with me so that I didn't have to sit there alone.

It took two sticks to get my fasting blood sugar level and it came back high at 102. Of course, I felt defeated and was not looking forward to the other draws. I was informed that I needed a total of five draws. One fasting, one 30 minutes after the glucose drink, at 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs after the drink.

Of course when it came to the half-hour draw, it took them five sicks to get it. I was in tears it hurt so bad. Shooting pain while they stick you is not normal. Plus, I had the woman telling me that labor is so much worse and that they will have a hard time sticking in an IV and that the labor and delivery nurses will tell me to suck it up! Wow, way to make me feel better.

After the issues with that draw, I called my OB's office and begged them to let me be considered to have gestational diabetes because I honestly wasn't sure they would be able to get the last three draws they needed. Of course, they said no and I had to sit there praying that it would only get better.

For the last three draws, she was able to use the same vein in my wrist. Yep, that's what it came down to, but at least she got them!

My left hand is swollen and bruised and I had to ice my arm and hand while waiting to get the draws...it was that bad.

I should find out my results on Monday, but I'm not sure what to think. I've done enough research to know that gestational diabetes is not a death sentence and can be manageable many times with diet and exercise. I still pray that I don't have it, but I wouldn't be shocked to find out that I do. I guess we'll find out Monday and go from there.

Good news, I've done well with my weight this week and the OB mentioned at my last appointment that I might get another ultrasound to see how big the baby is before he's born. Of course, I'm hoping for that!

So What Wednesday

This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if...
    So What Wednesday
  • Yesterday was not my day and I was a hot mess. We're talking the ugly cry multiple times.
  • I freaked out when my doctor's office called and said that I needed to take the 3 hr. Glucose Tolerance Test. I'm such a hard stick that it's painful and difficult to get one draw.
  • I'm drinking a ton of Smart Water until the test Friday. I might need the electrolytes and need to hydrate for the test.
  • Sometimes I laugh when our baby stops kicking when other people try to feel him move.
  • My husband talked my in-laws into letting us have a window unit in our bedroom. It was 83* in the bedroom last week and I was dying. We are in the hottest room of the house.
  • I am not a fan of unsolicited advice...especially when it comes to the pregnancy. Of course I'm going to do what's best for the baby!

Friday Brain Dump

  • Since coming back from vacation I have been even more exhausted. I can't seem to even sleep in to 7am anymore and I feel it. On the bright side, my ankles have returned!
  • I'm making custom curtains for my mother-in-law and brother/sister-in-law this summer. Mom (in-law) will be cutting the fabric since my baby belly will be getting in the way, but I'll be taking over the rest. I hope my back and wrist will allow me to get it done with minimal amounts of pain.
  • I now have to go to the Joann's an hour away to get the fabric for my brother/sister-in-law's curtains this weekend for the Memorial Day Sale. It will be nice to get things done this weekend.
  • I want to start prepping the cloth diapers I have this weekend too while my in-laws are camping. Mom worries about the water usage and places to line dry so I figured it would be best to do when they're out of the house and she was on board!
  • Settling the car accident claim from three and a half years ago isn't going as well as we were hoping. God is in control and I believe that it will all work out.
  • My baby likes to kick and wiggle around a lot, but most of the time when someone else tries to feel him, he stops! Makes me laugh that he's a little punky, but I know that they'll be able to feel him soon enough because he'll run out of room!
  • I am beyond excited for seeing my friend tonight. We used to get together weekly, but now it's hardly ever. I miss her.
  • I'm beyond thrilled to have a kitchen to cook in this weekend! We won't have a kitchen sink hooked up, but the appliances and counter tops are installed and ready to be used. Good timing since my in-laws are camping in the travel-trailer this weekend and that was the back-up stove.
  • I love when my in-laws go camping near by. That means we get to go over for smores and a campfire!
  • We were a little disappointed to find out my doctor's office was closed today. I should have gotten my gestational diabetes test results today and now have to wait until Tuesday unless they get posted online. If I pass this one, I don't have to take another test and will be in the clear! Prayers please!

So What Wednesday

So What Wednesday
This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if...
  • Every time we visit California I always miss certain things, but would never want to live here again.
  • My husband pushed me around Disneyland in a wheelchair. Apparently we also picked the hottest day to go.
  • I'm not trendy.
  • People are already asking if I'm due any day now.
  • I've had In-N-Out twice since we got here and my husband said he might want to go again for lunch today.
  • I always have a list of "must eats" coming out here. I miss the food and environment so much and the East Coast is so different.
  • I cried a little after I saw my friend. It's been three years and I know that we don't get to spend that much time together.
  • I  kind of miss home. Of course, there's no kitchen now since it's being renovated so I'm not in a rush.
  • Not working or having a real hobby right now leaves my conversations limited. Mostly I talk about the pregnancy.
  • I'm looking forward to our baby and keeping busy by being his mom.

23-24 Week Bumpdate!

How Far Along: 24 weeks

Size of Baby: Cantaloupe (approx. 1.5 pounds!)

 Total Weight Gain/Loss: +17 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: Have been awesome the past two weeks! I can still wear some mesh shorts, but almost all of my non-maternity clothes are too short to wear now with few exceptions.

Gender: It's a BOY!!!

Movement: Every single day and I'm loving it! He moved back to where he was so it's mostly kicks and wiggles down low. I keep asking him to move around higher so my family can feel him while we're visiting.

Sleep: Better! Less night sweats in CA so maybe it's because of the dry heat?

What I Miss: My left ankle. I've been a lot more active on vacation and It has resulted in swollen ankles which are just a bit uncomfortable.

Cravings: In-n-out animal style fries with no onions. I've wanted them for so long and can finally get them for a few more days!

Symptoms: Back pain, some cravings, and swollen cankles.

Best Moment This Week: Being with family and friends. We've been so blessed and showered with gifts and love while being out in CA.

Mother's Day

This Mother's Day means so much more to me than any other Mother's Day has. This time, I am a mom (to be) and am carrying our little miracle.

I feel so blessed to be spending it out in California with my mom who I only see once every 2-3 years on average. Right now she's taking care of her mom, but we'll be able to go to an early dinner and have her there with us the rest of the day. Plus, I've been trying to spend as much time as we can with her since time is limited when you live so far away.

I am so thankful for all of the mothers in my life.

Randoms...

These days things have been moving along. I'm feeling the baby move every day and have even started to see my belly move when he does! It's been incredible.

I managed to sew a diaper yesterday after figuring out my snaps problem. I also replaced the elastic in a used diaper I had purchased, made dinner, and volunteered at AWANA last night. Yesterday was definitely a busy day. Of course, none of that comes without massive amounts of back and hip pain from over doing it, but by the end of today or tomorrow I should be back to normal.

My in-laws are getting their kitchen re-done so we'll be without a kitchen in the house after Saturday until sometime around May 28th. We'll be able to cook in the travel trailer, but that will still be difficult.

Good thing we're leaving on vacation next week! I can not wait to be in California for a week and see my family. I have a friend who is having her baby any day now so I'll also get to snuggle up to an adorable new little girl and that makes me so happy!

I've been pretty bored these days because all I want to do is be out and about with people and they're all at work! I did visit Gram Monday so that was nice, but I sometimes want to go out and do things, but where we are, it's limited.

I did manage to enjoy a date night with my husband the other night. He asked me to drive down and pick him up from work so we could go to dinner. We didn't get home until late because of traffic and the restaurant, but it was so nice to get away for a few hours.

I may have agreed to sew two cushion covers and hem some curtains for my brother and sister-in-law. They are closing on a new house and need custom sizes. I'm just glad to be able to be with her to pick out the fabric. The last cushion cover I made was so difficult to work with I almost gave up.

Also, I need to figure out piping for the project...any suggestions?

So What Wednesday

This week, I'm saying SO WHAT if...
  • I can't wait to be on the plane heading to CA to see my family. I miss them so much!
  • Every day I wait to see if Baby Reese will do a big movement so other people can feel him. I want my family to be able to see and feel him move next week and we're so close!
  • I do not do well in traffic anymore. I basically will say how I feel, but only to whoever is in the car with me.
  • I'm tired of people telling me to walk more...I want to walk more, but my body won't let me.
  • I still have no desire for sewing. There, I said it.
  • If I still lived in CA, I would have an annual pass to Disneyland and be there on a regular basis.
  • I want to tell people that we're naming the baby Maynard just to get their reactions!
